Learn More about the Support Nursing Mothers in the Workplace National Online Dialogue

Why is this dialogue taking place?

Since the enactment of the Break Time for Nursing Mothers Provision (the "Nursing Mothers Provision") under Section 7(r) of the Fair Labor Standards Act in 2010, the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) has provided a suite of compliance assistance resources and materials to assist employers and nursing mothers in understanding their responsibilities and rights. These include a fact sheet, FAQs, PowerPoint presentation, employee rights card, (available in English or Spanish), and poster (available in English or Spanish). This online dialogue will provide an opportunity for USDOL to check in with key stakeholders to learn about the efficacy and usability of its existing guidance and tools. It will also provide a platform for external stakeholders to share best practices and innovations for compliance assistance.

Why participate?

This online dialogue provides the opportunity for employers, nursing mothers, and their advocacy groups, as well as state and local policymakers, to play a key role in shaping USDOL's compliance assistance strategies related to the implementation of the Nursing Mothers Provision. Ideas and comments gathered from this online dialogue will be used to guide USDOL's work to expand and enhance compliance assistance resources and materials to assist employers and nursing mothers in understanding their responsibilities and rights, under the Nursing Mothers Provision. We look forward to working with you and hope you will join us in this important effort!

Who should participate?

These online events are open to anyone interested in joining the conversation. We strongly encourage employers and nursing mothers to provide their input, along with the organizations and advocacy groups that represent them. We are also looking to state and local agencies and policymakers to share their experiences and ideas to help shape future USDOL policies and programs.
