Who is hosting the ePolicyWorks' Supporting Nursing Mothers in the Workspace National Online Dialogue?
The Office of Compliance Initiatives (OCI), in partnership with the Wage and Hour Division (WHD), the Women's Bureau (WB), and the Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), is hosting this online dialogue to gather input and ideas from employers and other stakeholders, including state and local policymakers. Ideas and comments gathered from this online dialogue will be used to guide the work of OCI and its partners to expand and enhance compliance assistance resources and materials to assist employers and nursing mothers in understanding their responsibilities and rights under Section 7(r) of the Fair Labor Standards Act – Break Time for Nursing Mothers Provision (the "Nursing Mothers Provision").
OCI's mission is to coordinate with U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) agencies on best practices and innovations for compliance assistance in order to develop new compliance initiatives, novel approaches to incentivizing compliance, and materials for agency staff on compliance strategies.
WHD enforces Federal minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, and child labor requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act and a number of other statutes and employment standards and worker protections, including the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
WB develops policies and standards and conducts inquiries to safeguard the interests of working women; to advocate for their equality and economic security for themselves and their families, and to promote quality work environments.
ODEP's mission is to develop and influence policies and practices that increase the number and quality of employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
What are the ePolicyWorks Online Dialogues?
Launched by the ODEP, ePolicyWorks is a Web-based approach to policymaking that engages citizens and stakeholders in new and innovative ways. The initiative leverages the latest technology, including crowdsourcing and social media tools, to address barriers to employment for people with disabilities and fosters real-time collaboration and communication around key issues.
Over the last several years, the ePolicyWorks initiative has hosted more than forty online dialogues. Brought to you through the use of leading-edge crowdsourcing tools, these online dialogues are interactive platforms of collaboration. These tools enable ePolicyWorks to enlist the public's input on key policy and programmatic issues related to the employment of people with disabilities. In addition to return-to-work/stay-at-work, the dialogues have focused on number of other topics engaging federal partners, advocacy groups, provider associations, business organizations, individuals with disabilities and their families, and other key stakeholders in the policymaking process.
