The pandemic accelerated changes to the labor market that were already underway (increased telework, automation and an app-based gig economy) and the subsequent response will likely lead to additional changes, particularly in the expansion of green jobs, infrastructure and technology. Many workers have lost jobs and face difficulties re-entering the labor market, particularly if they have been unemployed for an extended period of time or if their industry has been irrevocably changed.
